Description

Sky-Watcher BKP 200/1000 EQ5 Go-To Newtonian Telescope with 2" Crayford Focuser (SW-1208)

The Sky-Watcher BKP 200/1000 EQ5 Go-To is one of the most versatile telescopes in the Sky-Watcher range. Combining a large 203 mm parabolic primary mirror with a precision EQ5 equatorial mount featuring the SynScan Go-To system, it is equally suited for visual astronomy and entry-level astrophotography.

The telescope features a premium 2-inch Crayford focuser with a 1.25-inch adapter, providing smooth, precise focusing and compatibility with virtually all standard astronomical eyepieces. The focuser also incorporates a T2 thread, allowing DSLR cameras to be connected using appropriate adapters.

As one of the world's leading manufacturers of astronomical equipment, Sky-Watcher offers a wide ecosystem of compatible accessories, making it easy to expand and upgrade the telescope over time.

Key features

  • 203 mm (8-inch) Newtonian reflector.

  • 1000 mm focal length.

  • Fast f/4.9 optical system.

  • Precision parabolic primary mirror.

  • EQ5 German equatorial mount.

  • SynScan Go-To computerized control system.

  • Automatic object locating and tracking.

  • 2-inch Crayford focuser.

  • DSLR camera compatibility via T2 thread.

  • Excellent for visual astronomy and astrophotography.

  • Stainless steel tripod.

  • Expandable accessory system.

Newtonian optical system

The BKP 200/1000 employs a precision parabolic primary mirror designed to deliver bright, high-contrast images across a wide field of view.

Its fast f/4.9 focal ratio makes it particularly effective for observing:

  • Galaxies.

  • Nebulae.

  • Open star clusters.

  • Globular clusters.

At the same time, the telescope supports high magnifications for detailed observation of the Moon and planets.

The 203 mm mirror gathers approximately 841 times more light than the unaided human eye, allowing observations of celestial objects down to approximately magnitude 14.1 under dark skies.

Its optical resolution enables separation of double stars with angular distances greater than approximately 0.57 arcseconds (Dawes criterion).

A 2× Barlow lens is included, doubling the magnification of compatible 1.25-inch eyepieces.

For maximum versatility, additional eyepieces are recommended:

  • A 4–5 mm eyepiece for planetary observing.

  • A 25–30 mm 2-inch wide-angle eyepiece for sweeping star fields and extended nebulae.

EQ5 Go-To equatorial mount

The telescope is mounted on the robust Sky-Watcher EQ5 German equatorial mount equipped with the full-featured SynScan Go-To control system.

The computerized mount automatically locates and tracks thousands of celestial objects while offering exceptional stability for both visual observing and astrophotography.

The SynScan hand controller provides:

  • Automatic Go-To object location.

  • Sidereal tracking.

  • Lunar tracking.

  • Solar tracking.

  • Dual-axis tracking.

  • Right Ascension tracking mode.

Alignment options include:

  • One-Star Alignment.

  • Two-Star Alignment.

  • Three-Star Alignment.

The mount also features:

  • Stainless steel tripod.

  • Accessory tray.

  • Integrated bubble level.

  • Latitude adjustment with micrometer scale.

  • Polar scope azimuth adjustment.

  • Engraved aluminum setting circles.

  • Manual slow-motion controls.

Precision Crayford focuser

The telescope is equipped with a high-quality 2-inch Crayford focuser, providing significantly smoother and more accurate focusing than traditional rack-and-pinion designs.

Features include:

  • Compatibility with both 2-inch and 1.25-inch eyepieces.

  • T2 camera thread.

  • Smooth backlash-free operation.

  • Support for DSLR camera adapters.

Two 1.25-inch eyepieces are included for immediate use.

Astrophotography

The BKP 200/1000 EQ5 is an excellent platform for beginning and intermediate astrophotography.

The combination of:

  • Large 203 mm aperture.

  • Fast f/4.9 focal ratio.

  • Stable EQ5 equatorial mount.

  • Computerized tracking.

  • 2-inch focuser.

allows high-quality astronomical images to be captured with relatively short exposure times while offering substantial upgrade potential for advanced imaging equipment.

Astronomical observing capabilities

Solar System

The telescope is capable of observing:

  • Lunar surface features approximately 1.5 km across.

  • Sunspots and solar surface structure (only with an appropriate certified solar filter).

  • All planets of the Solar System.

  • Phases of Mercury and Venus.

  • The disk of Mars.

  • Jupiter's equatorial cloud belts and Galilean moons.

  • Saturn's rings and several of its moons.

  • Uranus and Neptune.

  • Asteroid motion against background stars.

  • Bright comets.

Stars

The telescope allows observation of:

  • Approximately 2.7 million stars down to magnitude 13.

  • Double and multiple stars separated by more than approximately 0.7 arcseconds.

  • The colors of the brightest stars.

Deep-sky objects

The BKP 200/1000 reveals:

  • All Messier catalog objects.

  • Hundreds of globular clusters, many partially resolved into individual stars.

  • Hundreds of open clusters.

  • Dozens of nebulae with visible structural detail.

  • Thousands of galaxies, including visible internal features under dark skies.

Power supply

To improve portability, the telescope is supplied with a 12 V vehicle power cable rather than a mains power adapter.

A compatible 12 V / 3 A AC power supply can be purchased separately for home operation.

Included accessories

  • Super 25 mm (1.25") eyepiece.

  • Super 10 mm (1.25") eyepiece.
