Crisp 4K HDR Images with Rich Detail and Color
The Z200 captures striking 4K HDR footage with vivid color, detailed textures, and clean images. Its 1.0-type Exmor RS stacked CMOS sensor offers high sensitivity and low noise, supporting up to 120 fps* in 4K and 240 fps in Full HD. Full-pixel readout and real-time BIONZ XR image processing help preserve fine detail, while support for 709tone and S-Cinetone makes it easy to match the look of Sony Cinema Line and other Sony system cameras.
*With approximately 23% crop. Refer to the operating instructions for recommended memory cards.
Smart Shooting with AI and Fast Hybrid AF
An advanced AI Processing Unit recognizes human subjects and assists the Fast Hybrid AF system in tracking them precisely across the frame. Wide AF coverage (around 81% of the image area) supports Subject Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking, helping you keep your subject in focus even during fast-moving scenes.
An Electronic Variable ND Filter lets you control exposure smoothly in changing light. You can dial in ND from 1/4 to 1/128 or rely on Auto ND to maintain optimal exposure automatically—particularly useful when moving quickly between indoor and outdoor locations.
Reliable Streaming and Broadcast-Ready Connectivity
Built-in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz* Wi-Fi, combined with Sony’s C3 Portal (paid) and XDCAM Pocket apps, enables simple, high-quality streaming direct from the camera. Remote operation via the free Monitor & Control app lets you check framing, monitor the feed, and adjust key settings from a smartphone or tablet.
The Z200 also includes:
-
Integrated 12G-SDI output with four times the bandwidth of 3G-SDI over a single cable
-
Timecode in/out for multi-camera synchronization
-
Broadcast-friendly XAVC (MXF) support planned for June 2025 or later
*5 GHz communication may be restricted in some regions.
**Monitor & Control is available from Google Play Store and Apple App Store at no charge.
1.0-Type Exmor RS CMOS Sensor
A large, approximately 14 megapixel (effective) 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor with a stacked and back-illuminated design delivers excellent low-light performance and fast readout. This architecture enables high frame rates and reduced rolling shutter while allowing more light to reach the pixels.
BIONZ XR Image Processing
The latest BIONZ XR processor, integrated with the sensor, enables high frame-rate recording, faster AF response, improved Auto Tracing White Balance, and better noise reduction. 5K oversampling with full-pixel readout packs extra image information into detailed 4K (3840 x 2160) 60p video with fine textures and smooth gradations.
Enhanced White Balance with ATW and AI
The Auto Tracing White Balance system benefits from the AI Processing Unit and BIONZ XR, allowing the Z200 to maintain accurate color even in complex lighting conditions, such as when a subject’s face is in partial shadow.
Auto Framing with AI
With Auto Framing turned on, the camera automatically detects and tracks a recognized human subject, adjusting the framing so they remain prominently positioned. The results can resemble a human operator continually reframing during the shot, even though the camera remains stationary. This is especially helpful for solo interview setups.
*In Auto Framing, 4K footage is cropped, resulting in a narrower angle of view.
4K 120 fps and FHD 240 fps Slow Motion
The high-speed readout of the Exmor RS sensor supports 4K high frame rate recording up to 120 fps and Full HD up to 240 fps. This allows 4x slow motion at 30p and 5x at 24p in 4K, with fast AF helping to keep subjects sharp. Slow & Quick Motion is supported up to 4K 120 fps and FHD 240 fps.
*With approximately 23% crop. 100 fps / 200 fps in PAL mode. Audio is not recorded in S&Q modes.
20x Optical G Lens Power Zoom
The built-in 20x G Lens power zoom covers a versatile 24–480 mm range (35 mm full-frame equivalent), suitable for everything from wide interior interviews to tight sports close-ups. Sony’s Clear Image Zoom extends this to up to 30x in 4K and 40x in Full HD, while maintaining image quality. The lens offers fast, smooth, and quiet zooming with maximum apertures of F2.8 at the wide end and F4.5 at telephoto.
Advanced Image Stabilisation
Built-in optical and electronic image stabilization work together in Active Mode to minimize camera shake and deliver smooth handheld shots.
*Active Mode applies a slight image crop and is not available at frame rates of 120 (100) fps or higher, including S&Q.
Accurate Monitoring with LCD and OLED EVF
The Z200 features a bright 3.5" TFT LCD monitor with approximately 2.76 million dots, providing excellent visibility and fine detail. The screen tilts up, down, and backward for flexible viewing. A clip-on LCD hood can be attached for glare reduction and remains in place even when the monitor is folded away.
For more critical viewing, a 0.39" XGA OLED viewfinder with approximately 2.36 million dots offers high contrast and blocks external light, enabling precise framing and focus.
Compact, Travel-Ready Design
The PXW-Z200 is built for portability and fast deployment. The main body weighs around 1.96 kg and measures approximately 175.6 x 201.3 x 371.1 mm (W x H x D). With the EVF and LCD folded in and without the lens hood, mic holder, or large eyecup, the storage dimensions shrink to approximately 175.6 x 175.4 x 285.1 mm. The detachable microphone holder further enhances packability.
Flexible Physical Controls
The Z200 is designed to suit different shooting styles and workflows:
-
Two independent control rings for focus and zoom, plus two dials for iris and variable ND, placed side by side for intuitive exposure and framing control
-
Twelve user-assignable buttons (ASSIGN 1–11 plus the Focus Push Auto button) that can be customized to control frequently used functions
*Iris control will be assignable to a control ring from June 2025 or later.
AUTO / MANUAL Master Switch
If conditions change suddenly, an AUTO / MANUAL switch lets you instantly hand control back to the camera. In AUTO, the Z200 can manage ND, iris, gain, shutter, and white balance to maintain correct brightness and color.
Cinematic and Broadcast Base Looks
To match other cameras and quickly achieve different styles, the Z200 offers preset base looks including S-Cinetone, ITU709, 709tone, s709, 709(800%), and several HLG variations (Live, Mild, Natural). You can fine-tune black levels, matrix, and other parameters to match Sony broadcast or Cinema Line cameras.
Multiple Recording Formats
The camera supports recording formats for both broadcast and production:
-
XAVC (MXF)* for enhanced compatibility with MXF-based TV workflows
-
XAVC S-I for 10-bit 4:2:2 Intra-frame 4K (QFHD) using H.264, ideal for post
