Description

The MAGUS Pol 850 Polarizing Microscope is designed for operation in both transmitted and reflected light. It supports polarization and brightfield observation methods and is intended for studying anisotropic specimens in biology, geology, and polymer science, as well as opaque polished sections up to 15 mm thick with one polished surface. This microscope is well suited for professional work in medicine, forensics, mineralogy, crystallography, and petrography.

Digital camera

The MAGUS CHD40 is a digital HDMI camera with three video interfaces and automatic switching between 4K and Full HD based on the connected monitor’s resolution. It uses an 8 MP sensor and delivers realistic imaging in 4K (3840 × 2160) when connected via HDMI or USB 3.0. When connected via Wi-Fi, the output is Full HD (1920 × 1080).

The camera can connect directly to a TV, monitor, or projector through HDMI and operate independently without a PC. HDMI provides a stable, high-speed signal to the external display. Connection to a computer is possible via Wi-Fi or USB 3.0. Video recording runs at 30 fps, supporting smooth motion capture without freezes or gaps between frames. At maximum resolution, fine details remain clear, and moving objects are displayed without noticeable delay.

Monitor

The MAGUS MCD40 monitor is built for microscope visualization systems and is designed to display real-time images from a camera mounted on the microscope. It supports MAGUS 4K HDMI cameras and features a 13.3-inch display. The IPS panel provides bright images and wide viewing angles with accurate color reproduction even when viewed from the side. The monitor can be placed on a folding desktop stand or mounted directly to the camera or microscope stand.

Optical system

The microscope uses infinity-corrected, strain-free optics to produce authentic images with high contrast, strong detail, and minimal spurious reflections. Objectives are installed in a revolving nosepiece with slots centered to the optical axis. The nosepiece has five positions; four objectives are included, and one additional objective can be added to extend magnification within the microscope’s range. The objectives are designed for examining specimens without cover slips.

A trinocular head allows a digital camera to be installed in the trinocular tube. Beam splitting is selectable between 100:0 and 0:100, directing all light either to the camera or to the eyepieces. A diopter adjustment ring on the left eyepiece tube compensates for differences between the user’s eyes to achieve the sharpest possible image.

Illumination and polarization

Both transmitted and reflected illumination use 30 W halogen lamps. Their brightness is sufficient for clear imaging with every objective, and the warm spectrum supports comfortable long-term use. Köhler illumination improves resolution and helps eliminate artifacts and edge darkening. When working in reflected light, color filters help fine-tune color reproduction.

Polarization is available in both transmitted and reflected light. Polarized observation begins by introducing the analyzer into the optical path. The polarization angle is then adjusted by rotating the analyzer and polarizer relative to one another. Compensators can be installed in a dedicated slot in the intermediate attachment to enhance contrast. The same intermediate unit includes a Bertrand lens for conoscopic examination.

Stage and focusing system

The microscope includes a rotating stage, allowing changes in specimen orientation to observe how it refracts polarized light. A rotation scale enables angle measurement with 0.1° accuracy, and the stage can be centered relative to the optical axis for optimal image clarity.

Coarse and fine focus knobs are positioned low on the stand to support a relaxed working posture with hands resting on the table. The coarse focus includes tension adjustment and a locking mechanism, while fine focus provides smooth, controlled specimen movement.

Accessories and expandability

To expand the microscope’s capabilities, compatible accessories are available within the MAGUS range, including eyepieces, objectives, calibration slides, and digital cameras.
