This darkfield condenser is designed to enable darkfield microscopy, a technique used to observe unstained, translucent specimens that absorb very little light and are often invisible under conventional bright-field illumination. For proper operation, the numerical aperture of the condenser must be higher than that of the objective. With a numerical aperture range of 0.7 to 0.9, the condenser is suitable for use with dry objectives providing magnifications from 4× to 40× and numerical apertures below 0.9.
