FreeFly Movi XL Optical Gyro Edition (SKU 950-00080)

The FREEFLY MōVI XL is built for professional cinema cameras and lenses and works with the Mimic and MōVI Controller systems (not included), as well as select Futaba and Spektrum transmitters. Like traditional sled-style stabilizers, the camera must be properly balanced on the MōVI XL to achieve optimal performance. Once balanced, the gimbal connects via Wi-Fi to an app on iOS, Android, or Windows devices to complete configuration.

Supported Cameras
The MōVI XL supports payloads up to 50 pounds, making it suitable for high-end cinema cameras paired with full-size cinema lenses.

Remote Operation
The system can be operated remotely using a dedicated controller or the Mimic controller (both sold separately). It is also compatible with most Spektrum and Futaba radio transmitters.

App Control
Configuration settings can be adjusted wirelessly through Bluetooth LE using the MōVI XL app on a mobile device.

Hot-Swapping Batteries
Batteries can be hot-swapped to maintain power without shutting down the system. Careful handling is required to avoid damage to the equipment and ensure operator safety.

Three Control Modes
Majestic Mode: Best for single-operator use. The gimbal stabilizes the camera while allowing intentional operator-driven movements. Useful for vehicle-mounted shots or single-operator jib setups.
Stabilized Mode: Assumes zero operator input and corrects all movement automatically. Ideal for fixed-angle shots where the camera is mounted to moving vehicles or platforms.
Slew Stabilized Mode: Designed for dual-operator workflows. A remote operator controls pan, tilt, and roll independently using a dedicated remote or RC transmitter.

Freefly Configurator
A graphical interface that allows precise adjustments to MōVI XL settings via Wi-Fi pairing with an iOS or Android device.

Silent Drive
The motor system is engineered for extremely quiet operation, helping ensure clean audio capture during filming.

Translation Compensation
The gimbal software makes continuous micro-adjustments to counter vertical translation—such as bobbing during fast movement—to maintain stable tracking shots.

Shot Recorder
This feature logs camera position (where GPS is available), height, pan, tilt, and roll. These records allow precise recreation of shots or help visual effects teams align live-action with CG elements.

Third-Party Mounting
With optional mounting hardware, the MōVI XL can be installed on cranes, jibs, and remote heads to support complex rigging requirements.

Remote Firmware Updates
Firmware can be updated remotely by the user, allowing new features to be added without sending the device to a service center.

Custom Direct Drive Motors
High-powered motors provide smooth performance even when filming on fast-moving platforms.

User-Adjustable “Shakey Cam”
Noise filters allow the operator to add a controlled amount of shake for a natural handheld-style look.
